Why is it so hard to teach a dyslexic kid to tie his shoes

I would love any suggestions any one has on this one. We are doing everything we can for my 7 year old to help his reading and we are making slow progress. Not sure if shoe tie tutors exist but I might think about it. It is SO frustrating for him.

I completely forgot this problem for me. This was a big issue before there were velco shoes: My mom and dad kept showing me the rabbit ear method and that is how I overcame this problem. (Making 2 Loops, twist around and pull through was the trick)

When I was a child I had the same problem, it can come down to which method you are using. My dad was dyslexic, and I believe I have some of the symptoms he did, however not as severe, he could barely read or write.

Have him make a rabbit ear out of the right and left lace, then just cross them, and fold one ear under and pull. That method seems to be easier for kids.

Try the "bunnyears" approach - less steps!

I really struggled with this one. I was so embarrassed at school when I couldn't tie my shoes. I even had one teacher yell at me because she had showed me over and over how to do it.

The thing that helped me was having a shoe box with holes punched in it for the laces to a bit bigger scale then an actual shoe. I was able to practice on that and my mother broke it down in to multiple steps for me. Like first cross the laces, then make one loop... Finally, it didn't sink in till she bribed me with $5 if I could do it myself. Best $5 I ever earned!
