Some school systems are using Corrective Reading to work with dyslexic students. Be careful!!!!!!!!
Many school book publishing companies are touting that Corrective Reading is appropriate for dyslexic readers. It depends on the level of LD for your child, dyslexia and any other related issues.
Also, Corrective Reading does not address fluency, or even the structure of language.
School systems like Corrective Reading because it can be done in small groups--thus, a teacher's time is better spent. CR does work for some kids but is limited when it comes to dyslexic kids. Anything that be done in small groups puts a smile on the faces of school administrators because it cost less money. And, in many cases, a para professional will implement the program instead of a certified teacher.
Laborious programs like Wilson require 1-1 and is intensive.
Before you get pulled into Corrective Reading with your child, get a evaluation from a reading expert on your child as well as an independent eval. |
