Post subject: Interpreting test results/red flags in testing Posted: Fri Feb 10, 2012 8:25 am |

| I am looking for help identifying "hallmarks" that would point to potential dyslexia in testing results. I cannot find this adequately addressed anywhere. The article on the home page about interpreting test results, gives some great information, but does not actually go into any specifics on interpreting test results. This type of information would be very important to those who are having their child tested but who have not brought their child for testing actually suspecting dyslexia. For example, I brought my daughter for private testing, knowing she is struggling and suspecting anxiety, and ADHD, Auditory Processing, something like that (ADHD is in our family). Her tests showed the anxiety and possibly ADHD, but otherwise were inconclusive. The one result that really stood out was low phonological awareness. I didn't even know what this was, and when I started to read and research, I see (I think) this is a potential flag. I then started to look into other areas and her history and I think she is dyslexic (as is my son), but I need to be able to go back and say, "Why don't we look at this?" or "Why don't we do more testing here?" but I can't find any guidance in this area at all. All parents are told is, "Have a professional do the testing." I think we all realize how difficult it is to find a true professional in this area (that is, someone who really understands dyslexia), so we need some specific information (i.e., information on which tests, what to look for in the test results, what are red flags/signals to do more tests and what are those tests), in order to ask the right questions of the professional. If anyone could provide this, I would be eternally grateful. I really believe this type of information should be included in the main sections of this wonderful website. Here are the professionals. Please help us! |
