| My children are both dyslexic and dysgraphic - dysgraphic moreso. I'd like dysgraphia to be added to the dyslexia petition! It was so hard getting teachers to understand that my children were bright but couldn't memorize spelling words etc. Anyone else out there have a dysgraphic child? |

| I couldn't agree more about increasing the awareness about dysgraphia. The stories I could tell about the comments that teachers have made to my son who is much more dysgraphic than he is dyslexic make me much sadder and madder than any comments about his or his brothers' dyslexia. |

I have a daughter who is equally dyslexic and dysgraphic. Interestingly enough she was diagnosed as dysgraphic (age 8) years before being diagnosed dyslexic(age 12). Despite years of OT her handwriting is almost unreadable. I have found this to be very difficult for a girl, as they tend to have better handwriting than boys. Her verbal skills are very strong and people are astonished at her handwriting after hearing her speak.
I watched the HBO special last night about dyslexia with my daughter, it was wonderful. She really enjoyed seeing very successful dyslexics share their experiences. Dysgraphia was only touched on. I would love to hear from anyone else who's child is dysgraphic, especially if they are girls. I have yet to speak to anyone else who daughter is dysgraphic. |
