YCDC Co-Director Dr. Sally Shaywitz Featured in Powerful New Articles
New pieces in Parents Magazine and the Springfield (IL) State Journal-Register feature interviews with YCDC Co-Director Dr. Sally Shaywitz.
According to the Parents Magazine piece, “Dyslexia in Children: Everything Parents Need to Know” by Catherine Ryan Gregory, “Our understanding of dyslexia has taken a quantum leap forward,” says Sally Shaywitz, M.D., codirector of the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity and author of the newly updated Overcoming Dyslexia. “Scientific advances have added a depth to our knowledge that was unimaginable just a few years ago.”
And in a column in the State Journal-Register that has been syndicated in newspapers across Illinois, Scott Reeder profiles Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne Burke. Reeder writes:
“In fact, dyslexics tend to have high intelligence levels, Sally Shaywitz, a Yale University physician specializing in dyslexia, told me during a telephone interview Monday … Successful dyslexics are greatly shaped by their childhood struggles but have found coping strategies Shaywitz said.
‘I was at conference and many prominent people who are dyslexics there. Someone asked what school was like for them when they were younger and they all ended up crying,’ she said.”
